The Summit brought together Kenyan, Slovenian and international experts in bacteriophage research, clinical practice, biotechnology, regulation, agriculture and public health. Over two days, participants worked towards one goal: advancing bacteriophage research and its responsible use where it is needed most.
As part of the Slovenian delegation, JAFRAL helped shape the Summit programme. We shared our expertise in bacteriophage research, development, manufacturing and quality, along with what we have learned from ongoing research cooperation between Kenya and Slovenia. Dr. Frenk Smrekar, Co-Founder & CEO of JAFRAL, took part in technical presentations and scientific sessions. He also joined the plenary discussion on pathways towards compassionate use of bacteriophages in Kenya.

Just the beginning: JAFRAL Phage Summit 2027
The connections made in Nairobi lay the groundwork for long-term collaboration. In 2027 we are taking the next step with the second edition of JAFRAL Phage Summit 2027.
The Summit will be broader in scope and bring together an even wider international community. Researchers, clinicians, regulators, industry and public health experts will work together to turn scientific exchange into practical progress, from joint research and knowledge transfer to bringing phage therapy closer to patients who need it.
More details on the date, venue and programme will follow soon. JAFRAL Phage Summit 2026 | Connecting Phage World
