JAFRAL Supports Advancement of Phage Technology in Kenya
In January 2026, JAFRAL participated in a technical visit to Nairobi as part of a development initiative aimed at reducing antibiotic use in horticultural farming across East Africa. The visit strengthened collaboration with the University of Nairobi and contributed to ongoing efforts to expand the role of bacteriophages in sustainable agriculture.
The project—supported by the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Republic of Slovenia and coordinated by the International Center for Promotion of Enterprises (ICPE)—promotes phage‑based solutions as environmentally friendly alternatives that can help address antimicrobial resistance (AMR). This aligns closely with Kenya’s national priorities in public health, food safety and agricultural innovation.
Throughout the visit, JAFRAL’s experts worked with local researchers to exchange technical knowledge, discuss laboratory practices and identify opportunities for integrating phage technology into existing workflows. Practical sessions with the University of Nairobi team focused on strengthening research capacities and ensuring consistent, high‑quality methodological approaches for the coming phases of the project.
